The project will include the following farmed fish species: Atlantic salmon, cod, rainbow trout, sea bass and sea bream. Together, these species account for the major part of the European fish farming production that depend on hatcheries for their livestock. The species also represent a range of biological production systems - marine and freshwater - and geographic differences. Cod, although produced in relatively small quantities, has been identified as an important 'new' species for cold-water European fish farming because of its potential for diversification within the aquaculture sector.
This project seeks to identify the relevant information about causal relationships across species and across disciplines. Such data does exist for some species, but only within some fields, thus the matrix of knowledge is very incomplete.
For more information of the species, see links on the right panel of this page.
