New Species for Aquaculture

New species for Aquaculture provide opportunities for higher prices. Nonetheless market prices for new species are frequently not elastic. Therefore minor increases in supply generally lead in large decreases in prices. This is the reason why the development of new species for aquaculture does require simultaneous research for (1) culture technology, (2) markets and market development as well as (3) environmental sanitary and medical requirements before market introduction. Effects due to the introduction of non-native species and their diseases to the environment must also be considered.
