There are some specificities of the water disinfection on fish rearings when it is compared to other fields of activity : (1) this water treatment process is applied on the environment of growing organisms, meaning that the level of disinfection has to be adjusted to the development of the animals , (2) this process can be applied to each step of the farm , meaning that the process has to take in account the technical , zootechnical and economical environments , and (3) the aquaculture field is a rather young industry on which this application of known water treatment methods has to be done very carefully.

The disinfection process on fish rearing involves four main parameters : (1) the microorganisms population , (2) the disinfection tool to apply, (3) the type of rearing and (4) the rearing network specifications.

Crossing this different parameters puts a focus on the necessity of research programs that could be classified as (1) the updating of knowledge , (2) the application to aquaculture of knowledge coming fom other fields of industry , (3) the research itself.
