Role of Industry in Traceability and Food Safety

(to see presentation)

There is a growing global demand for food safety and traceability within all food production sectors.  The value chain within aquaculture consists of different players and there is a need for information exchange between all of them to secure traceability and food safety throughout the entire chain.

Traceability needs to cover the product in 2 directions, from the consumer to origin & from the origin to the consumer.  Although many companies within the chain have traceability systems in place, these are often based on “bits and pieces” of information.  The fragmented availability of information makes these systems less transparent and more time-consuming in cases when backward and forward tracing is required.
